Milborne Port CC (243 for 7 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (88 all out) by 155 runs
Broadwindsor finally got their MWL campaign underway after 2 rained off games, but suffered a heavy defeat at Milborne Port on Sunday. Having lost 3 regulars from last season it looks like a season of rebuilding for the villagers, and it showed as the home batters struck up 243-7 in their allotted 40 overs. A.Pinkawa led the way with a hard hitting 106, aided by Guppy (33) and L.Pinkawa (20). Leo James (0-29 off 8 overs) bowled well on debut, while skipper Ade Phillips and Jack Ronan took 2 wickets each. In reply, Broadwindsor had no answers to Ben Crossley (3-11) and spinner Joel Enticott (5-20), as they were blown away for just 88, Ollie Weatherall (19), James (13) and stalwart and club chairman Clive Stafford-Smith (13) the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Broadwindsor CC (163 all out) beat Axminster CC (112 all out) by 51 runs
Broadwindsor recorded a comfortable 51 run victory in a friendly at Cloakham Lawns on Sunday. Electing to bat on a pitch of variable bounce, the villagers made a steady start with Ade addington (15) and Toby Pattemore (35) adding 48 for the opening wicket. Leo James added a quick fire 22 before a flurry of wickets forced a rebuild. From 107-7, the lower order hung around, helping Ollie Weatherall (28) and skipper Ade Phillips 19 not out push the total up to 163. In reply, Axminster were looking in a good position at 88-3 but Jonathan Gudge (3-27) and Jack Ronan (2-15) pegged them back as the home side collapsed to 112 all out.

Broadwindsor CC (283 for 9 wkts) beat Chard CC (161 all out) by 122 runs
Broadwindsor recorded a 122 run victory in their latest Mid-Wessex League game on Sunday. After winning the toss and electing to bat on a flat pitch, it wasn’t all plain sailing as the home side slipped to 75-5 with only Dean Hyett (27) of the top order reaching double figures. After being dropped before scoring, Nimoda Bandara made the visitors pay, striking a superb 131, his first century for the club. He mixed fine stroke play with sheer power as he hammered 12 fours and 10 sixes, and found good support from the lower order, adding 95 with skipper Ade Phillips (35), while vice captain Ryan Sweetman added a useful 15 not out as the villagers totalled 283-9 in their 40 overs. In reply, Chards Harvey Evans struck a quick fire 28 as they made an explosive start, but the introduction of young spinner Jack Ronan saw them collapse to 58-7 as he ran through the top order, taking 6-11 from his 8 overs, 5 of them clean bowled. Despite some late order runs from B.Riley (53) and skipper J.Driscoll (20), Phillips and Ollie Weatherall picked up 2 wickets each as Chard were eventually dismissed for 161.

Broadwindsor CC (219 for 7 wkts) beat Sherborne CC (220 for 3 wkts) by 7 wkts
Broadwindsor pulled off a superb 7 wkt victory at Sherborne in their latest MWL game on Sunday. After putting the hosts in, things looked ominous for the villagers as Harden (29) and Barnstable (66) added 83 for the first wicket and a big total looked on the cards. With the drinks break came a 50 minute delay for rain as the game was reduced to 30 overs per side, which also saw a change of momentum, with skipper Ade Phillips taking 3 quick wickets, all superbly caught at long on by Ryan Sweetman. Young Dan White, on debut, Jack Ronan, Ollie Weatherall and Toby Pattemore all had a wicket each as the home side finished on 219-7. In reply, Broadwindsor made a rapid start, as Pattemore (32) and Sweetman with a fine 59, scored freely. Rob Meech continued the momentum with a polished half century, adding 83 with Adam Moss (46) as they cruised home with almost 7 overs to spare.
Fri 21st June v Chumleigh & Mid-Devon CC (Home) - T (20/20)
Broadwindsor CC (221 for 1 wkt) beat Chumleigh & Mid-Devon CC (68 all out) by 153 runs
Broadwindsor hosted new touring team Chumliegh & Mid-Devon on Friday evening for a 20/20 game and ran out winners by a massive 153 runs. After being put in, the home side made quick runs on a good pitch, with both Dean Hyett (53) and Leo James (55) retiring unbeaten. Dan Hillier (45no) and Nimoda Bandara (36no) added to the carnage as the villagers racked up a mammoth 221-1. In reply the tourists struggled to gain momentum as Matt Fooks (4-11) and TJ Patel (3-20) ripped through the top order, while skipper Ade Phillips (3-1) mopped up the tail as they were dismissed for just 68.
Sun 23rd June v Martock CC (Home) - F (35 overs)
Broadwindsor CC (245 for 9 wkts) beat Martock CC (148 for 9 wkts) by 97 runs
Broadwindsor recorded a comfortable 97 run victory in a 35 over friendly at home on Sunday. With Jack Ronan taking the captaincy and winning the toss, he had no hesitation in batting first on a firm, dry wicket. He promoted Ade Phillips to open the batting for the first time for Broadwindsor in his 47 year career and he responded with a patient 57, before retiring to give others a knock. Phillips struck 9 fours and found good support from Matt Fooks (35), Ollie Hey (28) and Chris Lamb (22), while a whopping 47 extras boosted the total to 245-9.In reply, Martock made a steady start, reaching 35 for no loss, but Ronan’s off spin tore through the top order, as he recorded figures of 4-22 off 7 overs. Matt Fooks took 2-15, while wickets for Henry Hansford-Harvey, Jono Gudge plus a run out saw the visitors finish on 148-9.
Sun 30th June v Chairman's XI (Home) - F (25 overs)
Broadwindsor CC (159 for 7 wkts) beat Chairman's XI (134 all out) by 25 runs
Broadwindsor continued their fine form with a 25 run victory over Clive Stafford-Smith’s Chairman’s XI on Sunday. After being put in, the villagers were indebted to a fine innings from Ollie Weatherall, who struck a patient 70 with 4 fours and 4 sixes. He enjoyed support from Chris Lamb (26) Ollie James (23) and Jack Ronan (17) as the home side totalled 159-7 in their allotted 25 overs.In reply, Tom Fowler (33) and M.Khan (21) put the Chairman’s XI in a strong position at 95-3, but Ronan (3-28), Weatherall (3-30) and skipper Ade Phillips (2-22) took crucial wickets as Broadwindsor squeezed home.

Broadwindsor CC (245 for 9 wkts) beat Martock CC (148 for 9 wkts) by 97 runs
Broadwindsor recorded a 7th win on the trot with a 48 run victory against Martock on Sunday. In a game switched to South Petherton CC, the villagers elected to bat but struggled on a slow, low pitch. Opener Ryan Sweetman held the innings together with a patient 29, while Ollie Weatherall (16), AdeWaddington(12), and skipper for the day Jack Ronan (11) chipped in with useful scores. The innings was given late impetus by young Dan White (19 no) and Jono Gudge (16 no) as Broadwindsor totalled 146-6 in their allotted 30 overs. In reply, Martock’s top order was blown away by pace bowler Weatherall, who recorded superb figures of 5.1 overs, 4 wickets for just 5 runs. Only S.Primmer, with a hard hit 56, made double figures as TJ Patel, Clive Stafford-Smith, Rob Meech, Ade Phillips, Ronan and Gudge all took a wicket in a fine team performance.

Broadwindsor CC (66 all out) beat Yeovil Royal Blasters CC (44 all out) by 22 runs
Broadwindsor pulled off an astonishing 22 run victory in a low scoring thriller in their latest Mid-Wessex League game on Sunday. On a damp track after Saturday’s rain, the home side were put in and soon found themselves 13-4 as opening bowler Jomon John found extravagant movement to dismiss 3 of the top 4 for ducks. Only Dan Hillier, with the day’s top score of 18, could make much headway, but the tail wagged slightly as Rob Meech (10) and Jack Ronan (6no) scraped together what proved to be crucial runs. The villagers were blown away for just 66 as John finished with the amazing figures of 6.1-4-3-6.But whatever John could do, Broadwindsor’s Tom Goatley bettered, as he took the first 5 Blaster’s wickets for no runs as the Indians collapsed to 12-7. With skipper Ade Phillips (2-13), Leo James (1-8) and Ronan (1-10) offering fine support, along with excellent catches from James and Ollie Weatherall, YRB were dismissed for just 44, with Goatley returning the scarcely believable figures of 5.1-4-1-6.

Street CC (149 for 5 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (148 all out) by 5 wkts
Broadwindsor suffered a 5 wicket defeat in their latest MWL game at home to Street on Sunday.Electing to bat, the home side struggled early on against accurate bowling, especially W.Pope, who recorded 6 maidens in his 8 overs, taking 2-6. A fine 45 from Leo James, supported by Ollie Weatherall (20), Jono Gudge (10), and Jack Ronan (10) pushed the total to a respectable 148 all out.In Reply, the visitors were led by M.Davey’s fine 60, and despite James’s 2-19 and wickets for Ade Phillips, Gudge and Ronan, Street always had the chase under control. Broadwindsor put down five chances, which proved costly as second placed Street got home with 4 overs to spare.

Milborne Port CC (201 for 3 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (197 all out) by 3 wkts
Broadwindsor slipped to a 7 wicket loss in their latest MWL game on Sunday. After being put in, the home side made good progress, with Adam Moss stroking a fine 63, addind 71 with Ollie Weatherall (26) for the 4th wicket. A rush of wickets saw the villagers slip to 148-8, but a stylish 43 not out from 16 year old Dan White steered them to 197, a good total on a decent batting track. The visitors came out blasting in reply, smashing 64 in the first 10 overs, before skipper Ade Phillips got the breakthrough, snaring Collins for a hard hit 38. Spinners Jack Ronan (1-34) and White (1-25) bowled well in tandem, but 5 dropped catches cost Broadwindsor as A.Pinkawa (92no) and J.Enticott (46no) eased Port home in the 36th over.
Sun 11th August v Yeovil Royal Blasters CC (Away) - MWL
Yeovil Royal Blasters CC (181 for 9 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (174 for 8 wkts) by 7 runs
Broadwindsor gave League leaders Yeovil Royal Blasters a mighty scare before going down by 7 runs in a thriller at Bradford Abbas on Sunday. Electing to bat, the home side lost early wickets to Ollie Weatherall (8-2-23-2), before skipper Abin Thomas’s 54 steadied the ship. Young leg spinner Dan White took 3 wickets, while Ade Phillips, Jack Ronan and new signing Ross Weatherall chipped in with one apiece. The Blasters tail wagged effectively as they closed on 181-9 off their 40 overs.The villagers reply started slowly against the relentless Jomon John (2-25) but a superbly paced innings from Adam Moss put them in with a shout. His 68 included seven fours and 3 sixes, while Rob Meech (15) and O.Weatherall (31) offered good support. However, tight home bowling saw Broadwindsor needing 32 off the last 3 overs, a task that proved just beyond them.
Sun 18th August v Yeovil CC (Home) - MWL
Broadwindsor CC (249 for 4 wkts) beat Yeovil (247 for 4 wkts) by 6 wkts
Broadwindsor secured a superb victory in a thrilling run fest at home on Sunday. In their penultimate mid Wessex League game, acting skipper Ryan Sweetman won the toss and inserted Yeovil, who made a slow start, reaching 87-2 at drinks. D.Kenyon (45) and skipper Steve Redwood (46) laid the foundations before an explosive 87 from Simon Gerring pushed the total up to an imposing 247-4. The pick of the home sides attack was Dan Hillier with a tidy 2-37 off 8 overs.The villagers looked in trouble when Nimoda Baroda fell for a 2nd ball duck but runs soon flowed in a 168 partnership between Leo James, (who stroked a superb 109, his maiden century with 14 fours and 3 sixes) and a more patient 51 from the returning Richie Runyard. When they both fell, Adam Moss’s 49 not out saw Broadwindsor home with 14 balls to spare.
Mon 26th August - Kris Maharaj memorial game v Rest of the World XI (Home) - F (35 overs)
Broadwindsor (146 for 3 wkts) beat Rest of the World XI (145 for 9 wkts) by 7 wkts
Broadwindsor secured a comfortable 7 wicket victory over a ‘Rest of the World’ side in the memorial game organised by chairman Clive Stafford-Smith on bank holiday Monday. Electing to bat, the ‘World XI’ struggled against accurate bowling, and we’re indebted to Ben Holleleys fluent 44 which included 3 maximum’s. Ross Baker 26 and Tom Hannell 22 added useful runs but a total of 145-9 looked below par. The wickets were shared around by Dan White (2–12) Toby Pattemore (2-13) Ollie Weatherall (2-26), while Dan Hillier, new signing Prasaba, and skipper Ade Phillips snared one apiece.In reply, Richie Runyard smashed a quick fire 56, and Nimoda Baroda an equally fluent 47 no, while a patient 26 no from young Ollie Hey saw the villagers cruise home with more than 10 overs to spare.Special thanks to (‘BIG D’) Damien for the superb bbq, and the big crowd which made for a fabulous day.
