Broadwindsor CC got off to a winning start to their Mid-Wessex League campaign with a fine 40 run victory against new boys Bristol Indians at East Huntspill CC on Sunday. After being washed out at Street the previous Sunday a depleted Broadwindsor, with several new faces, were inserted on a green, damp pitch upon losing the toss. A fine opening partnership of 55 between Toby Pattemore (16) and Richie Runyard (51) got the scoreboard rattling along, Runyard’s half-century included seven fours. A mini-collapse to 113-6 saw the villagers struggling to post a competitive score but the lower order hung around to help Rob Meech (46) push the total up to 185. In reply, the home skipper N.Patel bashed a fine 51 with 3 huge sixes as the home side made a good start, but he fell to opposition skipper Ade Phillips (3-29), which proved the key wicket as no other batsmen could get going against accurate bowling. Six bowlers shared the wickets, with Francis Medley (2-16), Jack Ronan (2-27), and debutant N.Nimoda (1-8) all bowling well. The villagers took 19 points in a fine start to the season.

Sun 14th May v Yeovil Royal Blasters CC (Home) - MWL

Broadwindsor CC (55 for 2 wkts) beat Yeovil Royal Blasters (51 all out) by 8 wkts
Broadwindsor continued their fine start to the season with a crushing 8 wicket victory over Yeovil Royal Blasters on Sunday. After being put in the visitors never adapted to a slow, soft wicket and were blown away for just 51 runs. Jack Ronan started things off with a fine caught and bowled, removing the dangerous Ouseph for 6 before skipper Ade Phillips showed all his guile and experience, taking 3-17 to remove the top order. Francis Medley 1-8, spinner Ali Crawford 2-10 and N.Nimoda 3-4 joined in the fun as, despite a few catches going down, the Royal Blasters could only just pass the half-century mark. In reply, the villagers slumped to 3-2 and looked in trouble but Toby Pattemore and the returning Dean Hyett (who both finished 26 not out) guided them home to secure a maximum 20 point haul.

Sun 21st May v Cranmore CC (Home) - MWL

Cranmore CC (113 all out) beat Broadwindsor CC (53 all out) by 60 runs
Broadwindsor’s unbeaten start to the season was broken by a poor batting display in their Mid-Wessex League game on Sunday. After electing to bat the visitors lost early wickets to Toby Pattemore (1-23) and Jack Ronan (2-18) and the innings was held together by Cranmore skipper Joshua Keane, who struck a fluent 61. Home skipper Ade Phillips brought himself on and grabbed the key wickets of Keane and Williams on his way to 3-15 as the visitors were bundled out for 113. The home side were confident of knocking off the runs, but a succession of poor shots saw batsmen giving their wickets away. Only Pattemore (31) and AdeWaddington showed any application as the villagers were hustled out for a paltry 53 in a little over half of their scheduled overs.

Sun 4th June v Yeovil CC (Away) - MWL

Yeovil CC (243 for 5 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (240 all out) by 5 wkts
Broadwindsor suffered a narrow defeat when they travelled to Yeovil for their latest Mid-Wessex League game on Sunday. Electing to bat on winning the toss the villagers lost early wickets and found themselves 52-4 before a fine stand of 135 between Dan Hillier (67) and Nimoda (63) got them back on track. Vice-captain Ryan Sweetman (16no) and skipper Ade Phillips (15) added late runs as Broadwindsor totalled 240 all out in the last over of their innings. In reply, the home side got off to a flyer, bashing 82 off their first 11 overs for the loss of Ben Ford for 26. Francis Medley (3-45) and Phillips (1-32) did their best to keep the villagers in the game but A.Vincent (98), M.Shorto (40) and D.Ewens (56no) saw Yeovil get over the line with 10 balls remaining.

Sun 11th June v Chairman's XI (Home) - F (30 overs)

Broadwindsor CC (181 for 5 wkts) beat Chairman's XI (171 all out) by 10 runs
Broadwindsor pulled off a narrow 10 run victory when they hosted Clive Stafford-Smith’s Chairman’s XI on Sunday. On winning the toss the villagers made a good start with Dan Hillier (41) and AdeWaddington (23) adding 56 for the opening partnership. Good contributions from Ryan Sweetman (29no), skipper Ade Phillips (35) and Richie Runyard (28no) saw Broadwindsor reach 181-5 off their allotted 30 overs. In reply Tom Fowler (26) and George Geraghty (28) saw the Chairman’s XI off to a quick start but wickets fell steadily to Francis Medley (3-30) and Nimoda (2-20). With only 22 needed off 5 overs the Chairman’s XI were in control but Phillips pulled a rabbit out of the hat, introducing Hillier who took the last 3 wickets for just 1 run, leaving Ali Crawford high and dry on a superb 77 not out.

Sun 25th June v Milborne Port CC (Home) - MWL

Broadwindsor CC (227 for 8 wkts) beat Milborne Port (132 all out) by 95 runs
Broadwindsor returned to the top of the Mid-Wessex League with a fine 95 run win on Sunday. Electing to bat on winning the toss, the villagers saw good contributions throughout the order in a fine team display. Richie Runyard (24), Dan Hillier (44), Dean Hyett (29), Ali Crawford (41) and vice-captain Ryan Sweetman (37) all batted well as the home side piled up 227-8 in their allotted 40 overs. Port’s standout bowler was the evergreen Simon Crossley, who returned superb figures of 8-5-12-4. In reply, the visitors lost wickets on a regular basis as Francis Medley (4-24) and Nimoda (3-19), supported by some good catches saw them bundled out for 132.

Sun 9th July v Yeovil CC (Home) - MWL

Broadwindsor CC (180 for 5 5wkts) beat Yeovil CC (178 for 5 wkts) by 5 wkts
Broadwindsor kept their title charge on track with a fine 5 wicket victory at home to Yeovil on Sunday. Put into bat, the visitors struggled at first to get the home bowling away, crawling to 60-3 off the first 20 overs. The home attack all bowled well with Francis Medley (1-36), Jack Ronan (1-33), Ali Crawford (1-21) and Nimoda (1-17) the pick of the attack. Visiting skipper Steve Redwood then started to find his range, striking a fine 79, supported well by his young son Tom (32 no) as Yeovil finished on a competitive 178-5. In reply, the villagers slumped to 6-2 in a nightmare start. Crawford (24) started to rebuild with Dan Hillier, who played a superb anchor role, striking six fours and four sixes in his patient 63. He added 106 with Nimoda, whose superb 73 no included eight fours and six maximums, as Broadwindsor eventually cruised home in 26.1 overs.

Broadwindsor CC (57 for 5 wkts) beat Queen Camel CC (56 all out) by 5 wkts
Broadwindsor returned to the top of the Mid-Wessex League with a comfortable 5 wicket victory on Sunday. After a huge effort from the ground staff to get the game on, the visitors were asked to bat first and struggled on a wet pitch, losing early wickets to Ross Baker (1-10) and a superb run out by Ollie Weatherall. Then skipper Ade Phillips got into his stride, blowing away the middle order with 4-13, including twice being on a hat-trick. Further wickets for Joe Hawkins (1-8) and Ryan Sweetman (1-0) and another brilliant run out, with Sweetman’s direct hit from 50 yards, saw Camel slump to 56 all out. In reply the villagers also struggled on the damp surface, losing Richie Runyard (9), Rob Meech (11), Dean Hyett (9), Jonathan Gudge for a first ball duck, and Nimoda (14), before getting home by 5 wickets in just 11.2 overs, to pick up 18 points.

Broadwindsor CC (142 for 3 wkts) beat Gulval CC (140 all out) by 7 wkts
Broadwindsor welcomed old friends Gulval CC from Penzance for a 30 over game on Saturday and recorded a comfortable 7 wicket victory. On winning the toss the tourists elected to bat on a damp wicket and made a decent start, reaching 64 for the loss of their first 2 wickets, but the introduction of Rob Meech into the attack changed the innings dramatically. Finding prodigious swing, Meech ripped through the middle order, taking 5-29, and was well supported by Jack Ronan (3-17) as Gulval were dismissed for 140. In reply, the villagers opener Dean Hyett (55 no) and Ronan (38 no) punished some loose bowling as Broadwindsor cruised home in 17 overs.

Sun 30th July v Yeovil Royal Blasters CC (Away) - MWL (Reduced to 30 overs)

Broadwindor CC (203 for 5 wkts) beat Yeovil Royal Blasters CC (144 all out) by 59 runs
Broadwindsor came away with a 59 run victory at Compton House, against third placed Yeovil Royal Blasters on Sunday. After early rain the game was reduced to 30 overs per side, and the villagers were sent into bat, struggling to score freely on a green pitch. Richie Runyard was dropped twice but made the home team pay with a hard hitting 58, which included 6 fours and a six. Adam Moss struck a quick 36 and Nimoda 20, while Ali Crawford blasted 3 huge maximums in a fluent 49 not out as Broadwindsor were delighted with their final total of 203-5. In reply, the Blasters lost wickets regularly chasing quick runs as Jack Ronan (2-18), Nimoda (3-26), Francis Medley (1-33) and Crawford (1-39) were amongst the wickets, while skipper Ade Phillips (3-21) mopped up the tail, as Broadwindsor retained their place at the top of the Mid-Wessex League.

Broadwindor CC (241 for 7 wkts) beat Chard CC (170 all out) by 71 runs
A superb 101 not out from Richie Runyard was the highlight of Broadwindsor’s 71 run victory in a friendly at Chard on Sunday. Runyard blasted 14 fours and added 116 for the 4th wicket with Ali Crawford, whose 56 included 8 boundaries as the villagers bludgeoned 241-7 in their 40 overs. In reply, the young home team struggled against opener Jack Ronan (3-26) and were always behind the run rate. Skipper Ade Phillips (1-10) off 7 overs, Nimoda (1-21), Ryan Sweetman (1-15) and Crawford (2-13) were also in the wickets as Chard were dismissed for 170.

Broadwindor CC (212 all out) beat Street CC (110 all out) by 102 runs
Broadwindsor opened up a 20 point gap at the top of the Mid-Wessex League with a crushing 102 run victory over Street on Sunday. After being put into bat the home side made a slow start against a very accurate opening attack, Will Pope conceding just 10 runs from his allotted 8 overs. Only 11 runs were scored from the first 9 overs, and at the halfway stage the villagers were labouring at 68-2. With Dan Hillier (54) playing a fine anchor innings the others batted around him with Ali Crawford (29) and Adam Moss (24) chipping in and a 23 ball 51 from Joe Hawkins the innings closed in a flurry of boundaries at 212. Pope (61) then came out blasting boundaries for the visitors but regular wickets fell although the run rate was good. Hawkins (2-24), Crawford (2-23) and Nimoda (2-18) all bowled well, while Rob Meech finished things off with the final 2 wickets for just 1 run.

Tues 15th August v Wells CC (Home) - T - 6.00pm (20/20)

Broadwindsor CC (151 for 4 wkts in 20 overs) beat Wells CC (73 for 7 wkts in 13 overs) on run rate
Broadwindsor defeated tourists Wells CC on run rate in a 20-20 game on Tuesday evening. Electing to bat the home side racked up 151-4 in their 20 overs, mainly thanks to a brutal 83 from Dean Hyett, whose knock included 9 sixes and 3 fours. He was well supported by Richie Runyard (34) adding 77 for the 3rd wicket. In reply, the tourists struggled against accurate bowling, especially Tom Goatley (3-10) and Sam Turner (2-12), and when the rain got too heavy, Wells were well behind the rate on 73-7 off 13 overs.

Sun 20th August v Milborne Port CC (Away) - MWL

Milborne Port CC (178 for 7 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (129 all out) by 49 runs
Broadwindsor slipped to a 50 run defeat in their final league game at Milborne Port on Sunday. In probably their worst display of the season, the villagers couldn’t find early breakthroughs as 7 catches went down. Lewis Pinkawah anchored the innings, batting through for a patient 58no, and good contributions from C.Collins (39) and F.Osborne (30) saw the home side total 179-7 in their 40 overs. Rob Meech was the pick of the bowlers with 4-16 off 5 overs. In reply, plenty of batsmen got starts, Richie Runyard (36) the top score, while six other batsmen reached double figures without going on to a significant score. The villagers now face an agonising wait as Yeovil need to beat Milborne Port in their final game on Sunday to deny Broadwindsor the Mid- Wessex League title.

Sun 27th August v Chard CC (Home) - F

Broadwindsor (201 for 6 wkts) beat Chard CC (107 for 9 wkts) by 94 runs
Broadwindsor hosted Chard in a friendly on Sunday and cruised to a 94 run victory. Electing to bat, the home side totalled 201-6 in their 40 overs, with youngsters Ollie Hey (57) and Ollie Weatherall (53) making fine half centuries. Support came from Rob Meech (28) and Runyard (22). In reply, Chard struggled to keep up with the rate as Jack Ronan returned fine figures of 8-4-4-2, and TJ Patel and skipper Ade Phillips also picked up a brace of wickets.

Sat 9th September v Letchworth CC (Home) - T (35 overs)

Letchworth CC (175 for 4 wkts) beat Broadwindsor CC (174 for 9 wkts) by 6 wkts
Broadwindsor brought down the curtain on their season with a 6 wkt defeat against touring team Letchworth CC from Hertfordshire. The home team were put into bat and made steady progress, the innings being held together by opener AdeWaddington’s patient 56. He added 76 for the 2nd wkt with Ali Crawford (42), while Matt Fooks (17) and Angus Green (12) added late impetus as the innings closed on 174-9 off the allotted 35 overs. In reply, the tourists lost wickets to Jack Ronan, Ade Phillips and Fooks but from 52-3, former Surrey 2nd teamer R.Smith (79no) and ex Leeward Islands pro Maxford Pipe (54no) saw them cruise home with 8.3 overs to spare.
